Explore the Colorado High Country with an Adventurous Jeep Tour
Four-wheel drive jeep adventures provide yet another opportunity for our guests to enjoy the beautiful wilderness areas that surround Vail. Enjoy spectacular vistas spanning miles of the Colorado high country and observe some of the native wildlife that roams the area. Trips are offered on several trails in and around the Vail Valley including our most popular Castle Peak and Lake Creek Trails. All trails are available from May through October (weather permitting). Many of the trails offer tremendous wildflower viewing and spectactular mountain vista views, while others combine a dense alpine forest setting with areas rich in local mining history.
Where to go?
We have many great jeep trails available that will suit any needs, wants and back country desires. It is NOT necessary to book a particular trail when making your reservation, just have a chat with your jeep guide when he/she picks you up from your lodging about the type of tour YOU are looking for. They will then give you some options on where you can go, nothing is set in stone giving you the flexibility to create the best trip for your group.
We include snacks and refreshments on all our jeep tours, however if you wish to bring something extra along we can provide a cooler for your convenience.
Below are just a few examples of the trails available in the area:
West Lake Creek Trail
This 4X4 trip is for people who want to experience a true Colorado forest. While this trail is not the best for vistas, it gives one the true backcountry jeep experience as the trail is steep and rough. You are completely enclosed in the White River National Forest that borders the Holy Cross Wilderness Area as you wind your way through 250 year old Engleman Spruce and Subalpine Fir forests that are mixed with Lodge Pole Pine and Aspen. Your jeep will roll past a 100 year old mining cabin and ends at an old camp where trout and beaver are present. See and feel the deep forest first hand on this exciting trail.
Trail Rough Rating: Rough
Best time of year: Summer/Fall
Red and White Mountain
Our most complete jeep trip, this loop starts in Avon and goes straight up into pristine Aspen groves and eventually into a beautiful stand of Lodge Pole Pines. After topping out at over 9500 Ft. you enter old growth Spruce groves and open meadows with spectacular views of the Gore Range and Holy Cross Mountain. On a clear day the top of Mount Sopris, near Aspen, is seen. You will then wind down through open meadows with elegant red sandstone cliffs and hundreds of acres of Lodge Pole Pine. This trip ends on Red Sandstone Road which leads directly to Vail.

This 4X4 trail winds its way above the confluence of the Colorado and Eagle Rivers through the southern Flat Tops.
